Phoenix, AZ (January 26, 2000) - Out of the 9.1 million women-owned businesses in the United States, there are 360,300 business women in the Los Angeles metropolitan area. To recognize their accomplishments, Working Woman magazine held its second annual Working Woman Entrepreneurial Excellence Awards. Ann S. Price, president & ceo, Motek (Beverly Hills, CA); Judith Partridge, president & ceo, Eastwood Insurance Services, Inc (Anaheim, CA); Maria de Lourdes Sobrino Franco, president & ceo, Lulu's Dessert Factory (Huntington Beach, CA); Judith Digon, president & ceo, American Barricade, Inc. (Anaheim, CA); Karen Caplan, president & ceo, Frieda's, Inc (Los Alamitos, CA); Suzanne Dunaway, president, Buona Forchetta Handmade Breads (Los Angeles, CA); Claudette Tapocik, president, Plak Smacker, Inc. (Riverside, CA) are among the 19 regional winners honored. Regional winners were announced on January 26, 2000 at a daylong event held at the Scottsdale Princess in Phoenix, Arizona.
The 2000 Working Woman Entrepreneurial Excellence Awards program, sponsored by Bank One and Office Depot (National Strategic Partners) -- Fed Ex (Gold Sponsor) -- Salt River Project (event breakfast sponsor) and US West (luncheon sponsor), is the first-ever national campaign to specifically identify, recognize and celebrate the achievements and contributions of women entrepreneurs. Women entrepreneurs were selected by the editors of Working Woman magazine as a Phoenix region winner in the competition, which included Arizona, Alaska, California, Hawaii, Idaho, Nevada, Oregon, and Washington.
Winners were selected based on seven categories - Best Employer, Innovative Business Strategies, Original Products and/or Services, Overcoming Obstacles, Social Responsibility, Customer/Client Service, and General Excellence. (All regional winners are eligible for national award consideration -- national awards will be announced on April 10th in Phoenix, AZ.)
