In 1988, David Price, then working for a small consulting firm, was retained by Borden to automate their warehouses. They had very specific platform requirements. They didn't want a system that required expensive hardware and a staff of expensive experts for system maintenance. David's job was to source such a system.

What David quickly discovered is at that time, Warehouse Management Systems (WMS), were predominantly written in COBOL and required very powerful and very expensive mini computers. After reporting the results of his search to his client, David suggested that they consider a PC-based solution. Borden told David to prototype a PC-based WMS. He did...they loved it.

After seeing the enthusiastic reception to his prototype, he went home and told his wife that he was on to something with this software. He urged her to purchase the consulting firm (and with it, his prototype). Believing in the future of the product, Ann Price bought the company and quit her job to become CEO of what is now Motek. Ann immediately recruited the best technical team available from Caltech, and a year later, Priya, Motek's cutting-edge WMS was implemented in Borden sites across the country.

In the sixteen years since its inception, Motek has set the standard for technical excellence in the supply chain execution software arena. They were the first to implement a WMS that utilized Spread Spectrum Radio frequency mobile data terminals, the first WMS vendor to implement the product entirely over the web, without any Motek personnel on site, and are one of the first to include voice recognition for hands-free picking as a standard offering.

Today, Motek's exclusive Intelligent RF™ technology makes Priya the only WMS cost-effective for the 50,000 square foot facility and powerful enough for the 1,000,000 square foot warehouse.
