General Electric
A Priya Success Story

Company Overview
The Jet Engine Division of General Electric is one of the world's premiere manufacturers of jet engines for civilian and military use. The 1.5 million square foot manufacturing plant in Cincinnati Ohio, and the Mojave California Test Center are but two examples of the Division's facilities throughout the country.

The Problem
Tracking fixed assets, part, tool, and equipment inventories in scattered, sometimes remote locations throughout the United States is a nearly impossible task. Millions of dollars worth of inventory was at risk through loss and damage.

Old, batch mainframe systems designed to track, and account for fixed assets, equipment, component parts, and "perishable" inventory were generally inaccurate and not useful for day-to-day operations. Over time, these systems had proven too difficult/cumbersome to change, and were not capable of servicing the Division's current requirements. The usability cost and maintenance of communication lines to remote locations was proving too costly and inefficient.

The Motek Solution
Motek's Priya was employed to fully automate GE's multiple inventories. Priya incorporated batch handheld computers equipped with bar code scanners to provide fast and accurate information capture at each facility. Each fixed asset, tool and inventory component was identified with a unique bar code. Calibration times and maintenance requirements were automatically tracked by the system. Expensive equipment was no longer damaged or lost.

Priya was designed to interact, and share information with existing IBM mainframe systems. Systems changes that would have taken GE months to make on their mainframe systems were made and implemented in a matter of weeks. GE was now finally able to track the location and utilization of all fixed assets, equipment, and parts.
