America’s Largest Pool Chemical Manufacturer Automates Warehouse with Motek’s Voice-driven Microsoft-Based Solution
BioLab Inc. improves efficiency and accuracy with Priya™ WMS.

January 31, 2005. — BioLab Inc., America’s largest pool chemical manufacturer, has gone live with the Priya™ warehouse management software (WMS) solution by Motek Inc. Early results are impressive: “The Priya WMS increased our labor productivity by 30 percent,” reports Paul Harvey, Central Distribution Manager at BioLab. “It improved our inventory accuracy by over 20 percent.” The system also boosted space utilization at the BioLab distribution center, enabling the company to accommodate growth without having to add facility space.

Priya supports a mixture of wholesale and retail distribution at BioLab’s 410K sq ft Conyers, GA distribution facility. The system utilizes forklift-mounted radio-frequency devices as well as hands-free voice-recognition devices to maximize employee and facility productivity while assuring 99%+ inventory management accuracy.

“The nature of our distribution has changed in recent years from shipping large, infrequent pallet-based orders to processing smaller, more frequent carton-based orders – often shipped direct to retail stores,” Harvey explains. “We needed a WMS that would allow us to accommodate the individual needs of all of our customers, and use leading technology like voice recognition and RF to do that as efficiently as possible. Priya gave us a solution that is powerful and flexible enough to do exactly that.”

The Priya WMS is the only Tier 1; full-featured Microsoft Windows based solution currently available that can support more than 150 concurrent mobile users in a real-time environment. This kind of throughput was previously limited to more expensive AS400 and UNIX-based systems running custom or vendor-configured code and operating on significantly more expensive hardware platforms.

Priya® is a highly-configurable software solution designed with the flexibility to accommodate changes in business processes or customer requirements. “Priya is not a highly-customized solution that requires vendor modifications to keep up with your changing environment,” notes Ann Price, President and Chief Executive Officer of Motek. “Our solution can be implemented in a fraction of the time of other systems.”

BIOLAB DIVES INTO WMS WITH MOTEK
Consumer products manufacturer selects Priya warehouse software to support rapid growth

BEVERLY HILLS, CALIF. - May 13, 2003 - BioLab Inc., a wholly-owned subsidiary of Great Lakes Chemical Corporation and one of the world's leading providers of water treatment products for recreational and industrial markets and specialty household consumer products, selected Motek's Priya warehouse management software to support intense growth and broadening of its offering. BioLab wanted real-time warehouse software and integrated voice picking technology that would enable its two distribution centers, totaling 675,000 square feet, to meet increasing order demands and send accurate inventory data to retailers.

"Of all the WMS products that we looked at, the Motek Priya warehouse system had the best cost-benefit ratio and the least costly upgrade cycle," said Don Hills, distribution project manager for BioLab. "Central to selecting Priya was its demonstrated success on the Windows platform and the solution's flexibility to input data via RF, voice, or manually."

BioLab will rely on Priya to perform opportunistic cross-docking, improve order pick accuracy and increase employee productivity. With Priya, BioLab expects to attain 99.9% inventory accuracy and improve productivity by 20%. "The ease of implementation will allow BioLab to roll out Priya to an additional six warehouses, ensuring inventory accuracy across their organization," said Dan Waters, VP of Sales for Motek.

"Priya will allow us to change from manual, paper-based warehousing to fully automated distribution centers. With the automation and tracking tools Priya provides, employees will be more accountable for productivity and shipping accuracy," said Hills. "This is critical to minimize the amount of additional labor required for increased tonnage as BioLab grows all of its distribution channels. Motek's warehouse solution will give us a strategic competitive advantage as we continue to expand in the consumer products manufacturing markets."
